In line with Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s vision of electrifying rural communities to spur economic growth, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, has facilitated the installation of an electricity transformer, thereby bringing power to eight rural communities in Chugwi Ward of Vwang District, Jos South Local Government Area.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday amid celebrations in Dalyoho community, saw Dr. Bere expressing gratitude to the people for their steadfast support for Governor Mutfwang’s administration. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding rural electrification as a catalyst for economic development and improved living standards.
Dr. Bere highlighted Governor Mutfwang’s remarkable strides in the power sector, including: Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria to provide solar power.
He noted that, this activity involved the issuing a Certificate of Occupancy to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited for electricity expansion in Southern and Central Plateau, as well as establishing a committee in collaboration with the European Union to provide solar power to primary healthcare centers, to ensure efficient healthcare delivery.
He emphasized that the installation of the transformer would create an enabling environment for economic activities in the benefiting communities, and urged youths to seize the opportunity to develop sustainable livelihoods rather than engaging in social vices.
Dr. Bere also called on the community to safeguard the transformer and take ownership of government projects in their locality to ensure their longevity and benefit.
Dignitaries at the event included the Councilor representing Chugwi Ward, Hon. Gyang Amos; Da Gwom Chugwi, Da Mandung Atyos; former Special Adviser to the Plateau State Governor, Hon. Ayuba Pam Dangwong; and representatives of the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Company.
They commended Dr. Bere for the initiative in installing the transformer, which had been donated several years ago by former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Dalyop Fom.
Speakers took turns to appreciate Governor Mutfwang for appointing Dr. Bere, describing him as “a leader, who has remained connected to the grassroots.” They prayed for continued support to enable him to discharge his duties effectively and to further impact rural communities.
