As the celebration of International Day of the Girl-child comes around, Youth Empowerment Foundation (YEF) has recognized the remarkable contributions and achievements of female athletes in the world of Taekwondo. Taekwondo has always been a sport that promotes not only physical prowess but also the values of respect, perseverance, and equality.
A statement was signed by Executive Secretary of Youth Empowerment Foundation, Owalola Akin Jomoh, and issued to our correspondent in Jos, in which it indicated that, it is also their privilege to honour the girls and women, “who embody these principles in all the sports.”
According to him, at Youth Empowerment Foundation, they firmly believe that sports should be a platform for everyone, regardless of gender, to showcase their talents, resilience and determination.
The Taekwondo is no exception, and over the years, they have witnessed the incredible growth of female participation and excellence in the martial art.
Mr. Jimoh noted that, “Female athletes have not only excelled in Taekwondo but have also shattered stereotypes, proving that they are equally capable of achieving greatness in any field they choose.
“They serve as role models for countless aspiring athletes worldwide, inspiring a new generation of girls to pursue their dreams with courage and conviction.
“International Day of the Girl-child shows the importance of gender equality and the need to create an inclusive environment where every individual thrives.
“Youth Empowerment Foundation is committed to fostering this inclusivity within our sport, and we are continuously working to break down barriers and promote diversity in Taekwondo,” he stressed.
While appreciating all the female athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters who have made Taekwondo a more inclusive and diverse community, Mr Jimoh observed that “their dedication and achievements are a testament to the strength and resilience of women and girls worldwide.
“On this International Day of the Girl-child, we celebrate the power of female athletes in Taekwondo and sports in general, and look forward to a future where gender equality is not just a goal but a reality in every facet of our society,” he retorted.
He further explained that, Youth Empowerment Foundation is a youth serving non-governmental organizations working nationally in sports, reproductive health, nutrition, livelihoods, and education.
According to him, “We use various platforms, including school and community-based capacity-building sessions to enhance young women and men’s leadership and life skills; increase financial literacy and provide entrepreneurship opportunities for economic empowerment.”
