It was a carnival-like atmosphere on Thursday in Jos, as supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the six local government areas of Plateau North Senatorial District gathered at the Langfield Event Centre to officially kick-off the campaign for the October 9 Local Government elections.
Inaugurating the campaign and presenting party flags to the candidates, the
State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, energized the massive crowd, assuring them that the “PDP would not let Plateau down.”
He emphasized that the PDP remains the only political party where the average Plateau citizen can find refuge, calling on the people of Plateau North to demonstrate their strength and commitment by delivering a resounding victory for all PDP candidates in the upcoming elections.
“Plateau North played a pivotal role in our victory at the general elections, and that is why we have already begun delivering development projects in this zone. What we’ve done so far is just a preview. We are set to embark on massive development projects that will transform Jos into the most developed city in Northern Nigeria,” the governor stated.
Governor Mutfwang also appealed for calm among those, who contested in the party’s primaries but were unsuccessful, urging them to remain united under the PDP’s umbrella, which he described as “broad enough to accommodate everyone.” He promised that no one, who has labored for the party, would be forgotten.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, affirmed the steadfast support of women for the party, noting that women have consistently provided the highest number of votes in past elections. She added that the flag-off was a gesture of appreciation to the people, stating that the PDP will win the elections convincingly.
The State Party Chairman, Hon. Chris Hassan, expressed gratitude to the people of Plateau North for their steadfast support of the PDP and assured them that their votes in the upcoming elections would surpass those of the 2023 polls.
He also welcomed thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the PDP, assuring them of a level-playing field within the party.
Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, commended Governor Mutfwang for fostering trust through his administration’s developmental strides, and pledged that the party would remain strong and united in Plateau North to support the governor’s leadership.
Other key speakers at the event, including Chairman of the PDP Elders Forum, Hon. Raymond Dabo, Zonal Chairman of Plateau North, Hon. Davou Mang, and Hajiya Jamila Gwandu, praised the loyalty and dedication of Plateau North to the PDP and expressed confidence that the party would secure an overwhelming victory in the forthcoming Local Government elections.
