The National Security Adviser to President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, Nuhu Rubadu, says Nigeria is going through tough times, difficult times, but it’s not going to be forever.
He noted thus: “The issue of security is for all of us. We all have to come together; everyone has a role to play. But I think that communities – those, who have been living together for years and decades – it’s time for us to say “enough is enough.” ”
While briefing newsmen at Operation Safe Haven Jos, on Sunday, Nuhu Rubadu said, “Our security forces are doing well; but our communities can do even better. I think it’s time to say enough is enough.
“We have lost many people; but it’s not exactly like the figures you see out there. But even one soul lost is a lot,” he stated.
While appealing to the media to verify and report accurate, appropriate information, he added that, “Telling the truth helps us get through this together. It helps us feel. It helps us keep our contracts and live in peace and security.
“The message I’m here to deliver is a call to law; it’s part of faith and appeal for peace and security. We are one people who must live together,” he said.
The National Security Adviser commended the Armed Forces and other safety services for the work they are doing and the sacrifice they are making on behalf of all of everyone.
According to him, he was in Jos to convey his greetings and gratitude “for the job well done,” saying, “They have done well. They are important. I think it is obvious.”
He also acknowledged them for maintaining peace, restoring order, and protecting the people, acting instantly in the middle of a crisis, noting that, “Nigeria will continue to be grateful to members of the Armed Forces and the security services.”
Nuhu Rubadu stressed that, “I am in Jos on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, to greet the people of Plateau, to extend his condolences over what we have witnessed in the last few days – the attacks that erupted – and to meet with the Governor and Commander Operation Safe Haven and GOC 3rd Division.”
While answering questions on what is the federal government going to do to ensure that this doesn’t reoccur, the security adviser said, “I think we have made a bit of progress. The last time we had any serious incident was in December 2023. And now this is the one.
“Security bosses have done fairly well in controlling the situation. Just remember Plateau 10 years ago; Plateau three years ago; Plateau four years ago. We are not saying we are okay with what is happening today. No; we will continue to work. But you will probably appreciate that a lot of progress has been made,” he noted.
He said, “The Federal Government is working; the State Government is working, and the governor has been wonderful, and that’s why we have seen a relative improvement in the situation.
“We are learning lessons from it. But I can assure you things have changed, improved, and will get even better as we move forward across the country, and on the Plateau as well,” he stated.
According to Rubadu, “The president is saying, enough is enough. It has to stop. Whatever it takes, whatever we have done to achieve this level of improvement, relatively, we are going to double it. We will do more.”
He assured that, “The Federal Government will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure peace and security, so that our people can live normal lives.
“Anything that disturbs the peace and security of people, nothing else will work. Government won’t have the chance or opportunity to function, if people do not live in peace.
“Without peace, nothing can work: no progress, no growth, no development, no education, no health; nothing. So, fundamentally, whatever we do, we have to ensure that first and foremost, we are living in peace. That is most important.
“And, I think Nigerians understand this – if you look at the last one year and 10 months, what has happened in our country in terms of addressing violence and insecurity. And, I don’t think there’s any country in the world that has achieved that much in reducing violence, death, and abuse almost overnight.”
