Plateau Youth Council has distanced itself from being part of a so-called ‘Plateau Youths’ who took to the streets in Jos, in order to disrupt the peaceful protest on the city.
Chairman of the Council, Lot Sunday Adas, in reaction stated thus: “The attention of the leadership of the Plateau Youth Council has been drawn to the activities of some criminals, who went around vandalizing properties of individuals in some parts of Jos North, while carrying Russian flags, in a bit to take advantage of the most peaceful protest across the country.
“These miscreants, to the best of our knowledge, are not true Plateau youths or possibly sponsored to disrupt the peace of the state.
“While we sympathize with those whose properties were destroyed, we strongly call on all relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute these criminals without further delay, to serve as deterrent to others, who may want to do same.
“As the leadership of the Youths on the Plateau, we commend very sincerely, our dear Plateau Youths for showcasing Plateau to the world for the most peaceful conduct during the protest, and urge you all to remain law-abiding and do everything within the ambit of the law.”
They commended the Plateau State Government for the swift action in declaring 24-hr curfew in the affected areas to enable security agencies fish out the miscreants, and also commended the Security Agencies for their efforts towards protecting and ensuring that there is peace.
