Kauru local government Community Development Associations (CDAs) Forum has decried escalating insecurity in its local government area, following a recent attack, which left three members of the community killed.
A statement issued and signed by the forum’s spokesman, Duniya Achi, asserted that the community is “Deeply saddened and outraged by the recent attack on Surubu community, in Kumana chiefdom, where three innocent lives were brutally taken by their abductors, despite the payment of ransom.
“The Forum demands justice for the victims. This heinous act is a stark reminder of the escalating insecurity in our local government area, and we condemn it in the strongest terms.
“While the Kauru CDAs Forum commiserated with families of the victims and the entire Surubu community, who have been left to mourn the loss of their loved ones, the forum also shares in their grief and pain; and we stand in solidarity with them in this difficult time.”
CDAs stated that it appreciated the efforts of the government and other stakeholders in establishing the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in its local government area, describing it as a welcome development, and acknowledged the progress made so far in addressing the security challenges facing the communities.
“Forum, however, strongly believes that more needed to be done to safeguard the lives and property of our people,” adding, “The recent attack on Surubu community is a clear indication that the security situation in our area remains precarious, and we cannot afford to be complacent.”
The Forum, therefore, called on the government and security agencies to take more proactive measures to prevent such attacks in the future, by increasing the presence of security personnel in their communities, providing necessary resources and equipment, and working closely with local vigilantes and community leaders to gather intelligence and track down perpetrators.
Furthermore, it urged the government to address the root causes of insecurity in the entire Kauru local government area, especially poverty, unemployment, and lack of access roads, among other basic amenities.
“By providing economic opportunities, improving infrastructure, and delivering essential services, we can reduce the appeal of criminality and create a more secure and prosperous environment for all.
“We also appeal to our community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. We must work together to prevent crime and protect our communities.
“As a forum of leaders representing the various community groups in Kauru local government area, we want to reiterate our commitment to working with the government and other stakeholders to promote peace, security, and development in our local government area.
“We will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of our communities and push for more effective solutions to the security challenges facing our area.
“In conclusion, we demand justice for the victims of the Surubu attack and their families, and we call on the government to take concrete steps to prevent such tragedies from occurring again in the future,” it stated.
