‎Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has convened an Emergency State Security Council meeting aimed at addressing the emerging security challenges confronting parts of Plateau State, with heads of security agencies, Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Councils and Chairman of the Plateau State Joint Traditional Council.

Governor Mutfwang chaired the meeting, with the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, in attendance. The meeting discussed critical issues, and resolutions were taken to provide “precise strategies” to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

‎Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, Secretary to the Government of the State, Arc. Samuel Nanchang Jatau, said the Council undertook a critical appraisal of the current security situation across the state and reached far-reaching resolutions to protect lives and property.

‎Notable recommendations and resolutions were made, which include: “Heightened enforcement of the ban on motorcycles, night grazing and night mining activities, in order to mitigate the triggers of the current security challenges in the state.

“It was also resolved that all ungoverned spaces, government institutions and lands would be reclaimed by security agencies with government enhancing logistics and additional motorcycles and vehicles to security agencies, in order to improve security in the state, with immediate effect.”

‎Arc. Jatau explained that, “Security Council agreed that synergy and intelligence between Local Government Areas, security agencies and communities must be enhanced.

“The Council also agreed that, henceforth, any blockage of highways by any group would be treated as criminality, and perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.

‎“In the area of agriculture and food security, the State Security Council agreed that the farmlands must be protected and made safe for the farming season.”

It stressed that, “The Traditional Council should have a tight grip on traditional institutions and all cultural associations operating under them.”

‎According to him, “Pateau State is not only determined to secure the land and lives of the people of Plateau State, but bound to delivering this mandate. Stringent measures are also declared; a war on drug dealers and carriers of/and users of drugs within the State.”
