The Honourable Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has condoled with Borno State Governor, Prof. Umaru Zulum, over the recent flood disaster that ravaged the state and environs, a statement by the ministries media department has stressed.
The Minister, who made the remarks during his visit to condole the government and people of Borno over the recent devastating flood, also pledged support for the recovery efforts of the State Government.
Warmly received by the State Governor, the Minister expressed deep sympathy and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the state’s recovery and mitigation efforts.
Accompanying the Minister on this important visit were key officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Mahmoud Adam Kambari, Director Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Director Erosion and Coastal Zones Management.
Others were: Director of Press, the National Project Coordinator for ACReSAL, the National Project Coordinator for NEWMAP, the Conservator-General of the National Park Service, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, and representatives from the Environmental Impact Assessment Department.
The team also reviewed and assessed the extent of the damage caused by the flood and explored sustainable solutions to enhance flood resilience, erosion control, and environmental protection. Together, they discussed immediate interventions and long-term strategies to safeguard communities and restore the affected areas.
The Honourable Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all necessary resources and technical support will be mobilized to assist Borno State in addressing the environmental challenges posed by the flood.
