PLATEAU STATE: The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has confirmed that eleven (11) persons were killed, following the attacks on a Commercial Bus in Dungus, Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, and Ta-Hoss, in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau on Sunday.
The attack was said to happen at about 7:48pm on Sunday, September 13, 2026, when armed attackers reportedly riding on a motorcycle opened fire on a commercial vehicle at Dungus, Kuru, after it stopped to drop some passenger.
A statement on this development was signed and issued to newsmen in Jos by the BYM Secretary, Rwang Tagwang, in which it averred that, “The President of BYM, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, strongly condemns the deadly attacks recorded in Dungus, Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, and Ta-Hoss in Riyom Local Government Area, and left others with several injuries.”
According to the statement, nine people were reportedly killed in the commercial bus, while several others sustained injuries, in Dungus, while in Ta-Hoss, Riyom Local Government Area, one Victoria Joshua (50 years) and Nvou Joshua (18), were killed.
The BYM has expressed its deep concern that innocent citizens continue to lose their lives, despite repeated calls for stronger security measures across vulnerable communities and routes in Plateau State.
“These deaths are not just numbers; they represent families destroyed, livelihoods disrupted and citizens increasingly living under the fear of attack. The constitutional responsibility of government to protect the lives of citizens must not be reduced to statements of ‘condemnations’ after every attack.”
They called on government to demonstrate, through concrete actions, that the lives of Plateau citizens are valued and that those entrusted with public security are accountable for their responsibilities, and demands that government and security agencies provide a clear security measure in identified vulnerable areas and be proactive.
“We further demand the prompt investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators, as well as an investigation into any intelligence, surveillance or response failures surrounding the incidents.”
According to them, there must be consequences not only for those, who carry out these attacks, but also for negligence or failure of duty where established by competent investigations.
They also urged the security personnel, who are present in the area, to be proactive and sustained, rather than activated only after citizens have been killed.
“The BYM commiserates with families of the deceased and the affected communities, and prays for the speedy recovery of those injured, and urges residents to remain calm and vigilant, while cooperating with security agencies.” Meanwhile, the Police were yet to issue a statement on the attack.
