…makes formal apology to the Berom Nation over remarks on earlier attacks on Institution.

The Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, has paid a courtesy call on the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, who is Chair to the Chiefs and Emirs in Plateau, to formally apologize to the Berom Nation and the people of Plateau State over his earlier remarks during an interview with Arise Televion.

According to him, it was never his intention to attribute blame to the Berom people or cast aspersions on any community, and acknowledged that his earlier remarks had been interpreted in ways that caused concern and distress.

He was speaking to newsman on Tuesday, shortly after the meeting, when he also expressed “deep regret” over the unintended offence, and offered unreserved apology, while seeking the understanding of the Royal Father and the entire Berom Nation.

While reaffirming that NIPSS remains an integral part of its host community and is fully committed to promoting peace, unity and stability in Plateau State, Prof. Omotayo noted that “The institute is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure that investigations into the recent security incident at the institute are conducted professionally.”

He called for calm and restraint, and urged all stakeholders to avoid actions or narratives capable of heightening tensions, and stressed the importance of dialogue and collective responsibility in sustaining peace.

Our correspondents reports that, the meeting was attended by members of the Plateau State Traditional Council, leaders of thought and other prominent members of the Berom Nation.

He noted that the institute’s relationship with its host communities is built on mutual respect and shared progress.

The Director-General said NIPSS had continued to support host communities through educational support programmes, youth empowerment in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and digital skills, school mentorship initiatives and the promotion of girl-child education.

He also expressed appreciation to the Gbong Gwom Jos for his leadership, wisdom and continued support, pledging to deepen engagement with the Berom people in ways that promote trust, inclusion and social cohesion.

While responding on behalf of the  Berom Elders, Chairman of the Berom Elders Council, Dr Dachollom Jambol, commended the spirit of reconciliation demonstrated by the institute, and appealed to the Plateau State Government to constitute an independent panel to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent attack, stressing that a comprehensive inquiry would help establish the facts, ensure justice and promote lasting peace.
