The Federal Ministry of Environment (FME), under the leadership of Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, is committed to advancing Nigeria’s transition to a sustainable green economy, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
This was highlighted during a 2-day stakeholders’ workshop on capacity building and strengthening linkages with climate change research centers, held recently.
A communiqué from the FME, Department of Climate Change, titled, ‘Strengthening Climate Change Action in Nigeria,’ made available to newsmen revealed five key resolutions from the workshop.
The five key resolutions include Promoting Synergy, through strengthening collaboration among research institutions, stakeholders, and MDAs to enhance data availability and ease of sharing, Digital Transformation by transitioning from manual to digitalized data management for efficiency in climate change research.
Other key resolutions include: “Education and Advocacy, through developing comprehensive advocacy programs, empowering youth, and leveraging digital platforms to promote climate awareness and community-based adaptation strategies.
Amongst other resolutions are, “Low Carbon Development: Operationalizing the National GHG Inventory Management System and aligning research with government policies to reduce emissions.
“Climate Adaptation: Enhancing research, policy advocacy, community engagement, and funding mobilization to improve resilience against climate impacts,” respectively, according to the communiqué.
The communiqué added that the workshop served as a platform to chart innovative pathways for tackling climate change challenges in Nigeria, while fostering collaboration with centers like WASCAL.
“Together, we aim to achieve a sustainable future for generations to come. #ClimateAction #GreenNigeria #RenewedHope #SustainableDevelopment #FME,” it stated.
