The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global peacekeeping operations.
General Musa stated this in New York during the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at the UN Headquarters on Tuesday, according to a statement shared in Kaduna Wednesday.
The Minister attended the global conference alongside Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who led the Nigerian delegation.
Following the opening assembly, General Musa paid an operational visit to the Defence Section at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, where he was received by the Defence Attache, Brigadier-General EA Koleosho.
Brigadier-General Koleosho briefed the Minister on the Section’s strategic activities and operational commitments.
In his remarks, General Musa commended the Defence Attache and his team for their professionalism, loyalty and commitment to upholding the ideals of the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He reiterated the resolve of the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to “restore and expand Nigeria’s active footprint in international peace and security efforts.”
According to a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the Minister emphasized that the present administration remains deeply committed to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations across the globe to promote stability and security.
