PLATEAU STATE: The second edition of Vwang Peace Unity Football Tournament, sponsored by Gyang Bere, has come to an end on Sunday, with Turu FC emerging victorious, having retrained their trophy for the second time for the 2026 tournament.

Our Correspondent reports that, the Champions, Turu United Football Club (Turu FC) of Vwang, scored a lone goal (1-0) at the finals tournament, in the 59th minute of the second half in the second edition of the competition to emerge as champions against their opponents, Vwang Central.

Players of the tournament which ended on Sunday.

With this victory, Turu United FC has maintained their dominance as the defending champions, having won the first edition. The Peace and Unity Football Tournament is a way of fostering unity and peace as well as discovering and encouraging talents in sports.

The tournament has produced outstanding players, who are currently featuring in reputable football clubs within and outside Nigeria, and the unity it brings amongst not just the youths but the entire communities within the district.

Speaking during the grand finale encounter, the sponsor, Dr. Gyang Bere, who is the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Mutfwang, explained that the aim was to engage youths on profitable venture for peace and sustainable development, in tandem with Governor Mutfwang’s administration driven philosophy.

According to him, the governor has continued demonstrating unwavering commitment towards investing in the youths in different platforms to excel and become responsible community leaders.

“The tournament was conceived to bring together talented youths across Vwang District, promote peace, unity, and social cohesion, while also championing the fight against drug abuse within the community and beyond,” Bere stated.

He also acknowledged the unflinching support and contributions of his principal, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Plateau State Football Association (PFA) management, ministry of youths and sports development, traditional rulers and stakeholders of Vwang District as well as the general public for their unwavering commitment to peace, unity, youth development, and communal harmony.
