Today marks one year since my dear friend, brother, and former Deputy Governor, Prof. Sunny Gwanle Tyoden, was called to eternal glory. The memory of his life, service, and character remains ever fresh in my heart and in the hearts of the people of Plateau State.
Prof. Tyoden was not only a dependable Deputy Governor during our time in office under the APC Rescue Administration, but also a pillar of wisdom, stability, and integrity in governance.
Our working relationship was defined by mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to the progress of Plateau State. He brought to leadership a rare blend of scholarship, strategic thinking, administrative competence, and deep compassion for humanity.
As a distinguished academic, who rose to become Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tyoden deployed his vast experience to strengthen governance, particularly in the education sector where he superintended with remarkable vision during our first tenure.
His far-reaching reforms and interventions laid a solid foundation that significantly improved educational standards and outcomes in the State.
Prof. Tyoden was calm, yet firm; humble, yet highly intellectual, and meticulous in handling responsibilities entrusted to him. I often reflected on his humility and loyalty – qualities that stood out even more considering his towering achievements in academia and public service.
Despite his stature, he worked harmoniously and submitted himself fully to the collective goal of serving our people. Beyond the corridors of power, he was a man of peace, discipline, and principle whose counsel I deeply cherished.
His absence continues to leave a void, but I remain grateful to God for the privilege of working closely with such an exceptional personality.
As we mark this solemn anniversary, I join his family, friends, associates, and the entire Plateau State in remembering a life well spent in Service to Humanity. I pray that God grants his gentle soul eternal rest and continues to comfort all who mourn him.
Though, he is no longer with us, his legacy of service, excellence, and humility will continue to inspire generations.
May his soul and the souls of the departed continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord till we meet to part no more.
