In an aggrieved mood – bothering on recent gruesome killings Bassa LGA, the Plateau State Governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, has asserted that, “This is not the time for blame but for unity, because those behind these attacks are not invisible; they are known, and anyone protecting them is equally guilty.”

The governor was speaking on Tuesday when he visited Zikke and Kimakpa villages in Kwall District, Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, following last Sunday’s overnight attack that left more than 52 people dead.

While extending his condolences to grieving families, Mutfwang reassured them of the government’s commitment to their safety and recovery.

He also extended President Bola Tinubu condolences and assured them of the federal government intervention, stressing that government’s goal was not just survival but the prosperity of the affected communities in their homelands.

The governor also expressed sadness over the tragedy, saying that despite security measures that was put in place, the government was unable to prevent the bloodshed in the land.

According to him, the entire nation stands with them in mourning and also the international community, adding, “Since I got the information of this attack, I have been overcome with sorrow.

“We took all necessary steps to avert this; yet, we failed you. We ask forgiveness on behalf of the government and security agencies.”

While condemning the persistent attacks targeting Irigwe communities, the governor assured to “intensify efforts to restore peace.” 

Speaking earlier, the Bra Ngwe Irigwe, Rt. Rev. Ronku Aka, who is Traditional Ruler of the Irigweland, commended the governor for his visit and solidarity, and prayed that the attacks should not be repeated again, and then called for heightened community vigilance, while cautioning against reprisals.

Governor Mutfwang earlier met with the traditional rulers after which he later addressed the Irigwe community at Zikke Primary School, during which he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment in resolving to pursue justice and sustainable peace in the region.
