JOS: The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, has held the Command’s Monthly Conference with officers across the Command at the Police Officers Mess, Jos.
The conference was held as part of the Commissioner of Police’s ongoing efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness, enhance institutional accountability, and improve security across Plateau State.
During the meeting, the CP assessed the operational successes and challenges faced by the officers within the period under review and drafted out strategies for better results.
While addressing the officers, CP Ayodeji reiterated the need for “strict compliance” with the IGP’s directives and adherence to internationally-recognised standards of policing, emphasizing that effective policing requires discipline, vigilance, sound judgment, and strict adherence to established operational procedures and the rule of law.
While charging the officers to demonstrate professionalism and impartiality in the discharge of their duties, respect the fundamental rights of citizens, and remain accountable for their actions at all times, the CP stressed that “Unprofessional conducts such as incivility, extortion, brutality, abuse of authority, and other forms of misconduct would not be tolerated.”
Furthermore, the CP stressed the importance of timely intelligence gathering, rapid response to security threats, effective command and control, and strengthened engagement with communities.
He urged officers at all levels to intensify their efforts towards crime prevention and detection, while ensuring that policing interventions remain lawful, proportionate, and responsive to the prevailing security realities in their respective areas of responsibility.
He also charged the officers to uphold the core values of the Force and sustain public confidence through integrity, professionalism, transparency, and respect for human dignity.
In view of the Ember months’ period, the CP directed all Area/Squadron Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to strengthen collaboration with the other security agencies, in order to ensure that the peace on the Plateau is sustained.
In view of the forthcoming 2027 general elections, the Commissioner of Police charged officers to remain strictly apolitical, impartial, and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He warned against partisan policing, the misuse of Police authority, and any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral process. He emphasised that the Command would provide a secure environment for lawful political activities while ensuring that all individuals and political groups are treated fairly and in accordance with the law.
The Plateau State Police Command, therefore, wishes to reassure residents of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for all. Members of the public are encouraged to support the Police by providing timely, credible, and actionable information.
