Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang returned to the Jos on Saturday, amidst a massive jubilating crowd that gathered at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, joyfully to welcome him home, following the judgment of the Supreme Court on Friday that upheld his governorship seat for Plateau State.
The Supreme Court’s ruling, which upheld his position as the duly elected Governor of Plateau State, resonated with the people, nullifying the Court of Appeal’s earlier decision that had disrupted his mandate.
Middle-Belt News Networks witnessed Mutfwang’s return in a colourful motorcade, from Heipang Airport down to Old Airport Road to the Langfield Event Centre, near new Gvernment House, Little Rayfield Jos, as jubilant crowd spanning several kilometers celebrated the victory – and there was a serious hold up.
While expressing gratitude at the Langfield Event Centre, Governor Mutfwang thanked Plateau citizens, both home and abroad, and supporters nationwide for their unwavering support, pledging to revitalize state and fulfill promises of progress.
He acknowledged the Supreme Court’s role, and commended the justices for upholding justice and restoring hope to Plateau and Nigeria as a whole.
The governor highlighted the significance of their decision, stating that “The Justices could hold their heads high, if they witness the jubilation in Jos, Kano, and other states.”
Governor Muftwang encouraged the citizens of the state, irrespective of politics, religion, or ethnicity, to be united among themselves.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized his commitment to addressing key issues such as terrorism, poverty, illiteracy, healthcare, and education.
He equally expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for respecting the independence of the political and judicial processes, acknowledging him as a “strong leader on the global stage.”
Former Governor Jonah Jang (of Plateau State) described Mutfwang as a “God-given leader,” urging him to foster unity through regular political engagements.
The Plateau State PDP Chairman, Hon. Chris Hassan, thanked the people for their trust and called for support to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends.
Elder Statesman, Amb. Yahaya Kwande, hailed Mutfwang as a committed leader and emphasized the transformative impact with the right support.
Joining the chorus was also former Minority Leader in the Senate, Simon Mwadkwon, who urged Plateau residents to stand united, dismissing attempts to divide them along religious lines.
Other well-wishers, including Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Gabriel Dewan; Chairman PDP Elders Forum, Chief Raymond Dabo, and Hajiya Jamila Gwandu, echoed the call for solidarity with Governor Mutfwang, while discouraging any divisive ideologies.
