…Govt announces temporary closure of all public, private primary and secondary schools across the State.

The Management of Plateau Express Services Group has directed a temporary reduction in passenger capacity across Tin City Metro bus services, following in response to the current diphtheria outbreak, which is related to public health as part of concern.
This precautionary measure takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice; a statement attributing to this effect was signed and issued to public by the Management Plateau Express Services Group Ltd Jos, on Saturday.
As part of this temporary arrangement, standing passengers will be limited to a maximum of 15 persons per bus. Once this limit is reached, no additional standing passengers will be permitted to board.
“As a public transportation service connecting communities across the Jos metropolis, Tin City Metro recognises its responsibility to promote the safety and well-being of the thousands of commuters who rely on our services daily. We are, therefore, taking this proactive step to support safer commuting during this period.
“We kindly appeal to all passengers to cooperate fully with our drivers, bus attendants and other officials in observing the temporary passenger-capacity limits.
“We recognise that this adjustment may result in longer waiting times and require additional patience from commuters. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation, as the health, safety and well-being of our passengers, staff and the wider community remains our priority.
The statement averred that, “Tin City Metro will continue to monitor developments and review this measure, in line with relevant public health guidance and directives.”
Following this unhealthy development, therefore, the Plateau State Government has directed the temporary closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the State, effective Monday, September 7, 2026.
The directive, under the leadership of Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., is taking preventative measures against the Diphtheria Infection outbreak of suspected cases in some parts of the State, notably Jos North, Wase, Jos South & Bassa Local Government Areas.
To this effect, a statement was signed and issued to newsmen in Jos on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap.
Accordingly, schools that have already resumed academic activities are also directed to close, from Monday, September 7, 2026, and remain closed until further notice.
Furthermore, school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents and guardians are to comply fully with the directive and ensure that students and pupils remain safely at home throughout the period, as part of measures to ensure the safety and well-being of pupils, students, teaching and non-teaching staff during the period under review.
The government appreciates the understanding and full cooperation of all stakeholders as it continues to take appropriate measures in the best interest of the people of Plateau State.
