…Union condemns, mourns victims.

The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has condemned the killing of six farmers by armed bandits, in Kuyello District, and called on the Federal Government and Kaduna State Government to intensify security operations to prevent a food crisis.
In a statement signed by Union Chairman, Dr. Isah Muhammad, BEPU said the victims were attacked and killed on Monday, 22 June 2026, while working on Kujijiro farmlands, in Eastern Birnin-Gwari LGA.
The union described the incident as “particularly disturbing” because Kuyello and other eastern communities continue to suffer attacks, despite efforts to restore peace.
BEPU warned that continued attacks on farmers pose a serious threat to stability and could force many to abandon their farms this season.
“If urgent and decisive action is not taken, many farmers may become afraid to return to their farms. Such a situation will not only affect Birnin-Gwari but may also lead to reduced food production, higher food prices and economic difficulties across Kaduna State and Northern Nigeria,” the statement added.
BEPU stressed that, Birnin-Gwari is “one community with a shared history and a common future,” adding that “as long as any part remains unsafe, true peace cannot be said to exist.”
The group called on the Hon. Minister of Defence, the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify operations in Kuyello and wider Eastern Birnin-Gwari.
It also urged the Kaduna State Government to strengthen security presence and support to protect lives and property.
BEPU commiserated with the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of the deceased. It urged residents to remain calm, united and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.
The body reaffirmed its commitment to work with government and security agencies to ensure Birnin-Gwari “never returns to the dark days of widespread killings, kidnappings and fear.”
