Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Kaduna State, Usman Shehu Bawa (“ABG”), has joined other opposition gubernatorial candidates in Kaduna to reaffirm their commitment to political freedom, inclusion, and a credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A statement by the spokesperson of Shehu ABG, Yusuf Idris, said the opposition candidates, including Isa Ashiru of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), took this stand during a meeting in Kaduna.
During the meeting, all the candidates expressed concern over what they described as the “persecution of opposition figures” and the “shrinking space” for alternative political voices under the current administration.
The candidates stressed the need to protect fundamental rights, promote political pluralism, and guarantee a level-playing field for all parties participating in the forthcoming elections.
They maintained that no government should use state power to intimidate political opponents, restrict legitimate political activities, or undermine citizens’ right to freely choose their leaders.
The candidates also clarified that the gathering was not about partisan rivalry, but a shared commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring that all political parties can operate without undue interference.
They also pledged to strengthen cooperation among their parties, promote peaceful political engagement, and work towards elections that are free, fair, transparent, and reflective of the genuine wishes of people of Kaduna State.
The candidates reaffirmed their determination to pursue their political aspirations through lawful and peaceful means, while calling on relevant authorities to ensure an environment in which every party can organise, campaign, and compete fairly.
