One person was reportedly guned down, while others sustained various injuries, following Friday clashes between Nigeria Police and El-Zazaky-led Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), the Shiites group in Kaduna.
Eye witnesses attributed the conflict to procession by the Shiites group to mark their support for Palestine against Israeli crises every last Friday before end of Ramadan fasting, occurred along Ahmadu Bello Way, in Kaduna main town.
According to eyewitness account, Police opened fire and tear gass around Cooperative Bus Stop, along Ahmadu Bello Way, to disperse the Shiites procession, which caused stirs.
Though, the Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, denied knowledge of any opening of fire on the Shiites, he nevertheless added that “Shiites used dangerous weapon, which led to the usual Police responses to resist and protect themselves against attacks.”
As at the time of filing this report, the Police was, however, yet to release any official statement on the incident when contacted through office of the Kaduna State Command spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan.
