As today is being mark as International Women’s Day, Plateau State Deputy Governor, Hon. Mrs Josephine Piyo, has described rural women in the state as being “dogged and resilient,” saying that it was critical that they are accorded their rightful place as active participants, in the efforts to achieve sustainable development in Plateau.
She added that, the Governor Mutfwang-led administration was sensitive to gender equality and women’s empowerment, which she said are essential components of human development and basic human rights.
This was her message to Plateau women and was contained in a statement signed and issued to our correspondent in Jos on Sunday.
The Deputy Governor hailed women in rural communities for their immense contributions to sustainable development, particularly in the area of agriculture and rural enterprises in Plateau state.
She noted this in her Congratulatory Message to mark the International Day of Rural Women, which is commemorated on October 15 each year to celebrate and applaud the role of women in rural development, food production and poverty eradication.
Josephine Piyo further applauded rural women for supporting their households and communities in providing food, generating income, improving rural livelihoods and overall well-being of families in the state.
She stressed that their administration was working assiduously to ensure that local communities are safe for farming and other businesses to thrive.
