PLATEAU STATE: Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development in Plateau State, Hon. Caroline Panglang Dafur, has reaffirmed their unwavering commitment as a government to advocating for every girl, irrespective of where she comes from or the circumstances she may face.

According to her, her mission is clear, and they are dedicated to ensuring that every girl in Plateau State has the chance to thrive, learn, and realize her full potential.

The commissioner, in her statement, disclosed this on Wednesday to mark the International Day of the Girl-Child, which is a day dedicated to recognizing the unique challenges that girls face and the incredible potential they hold.

She said, “This commitment ‘to safe spaces and opportunities for girls’ is not just a statement; it is a promise, and a promise to break down the barriers that restrict access to quality education, to provide protection from harm, and to create an environment where girls can confidently pursue their dreams.

“We recognize that, gender equality is not just a women’s issue; it is a societal issue. It affects all of us. When we invest in the empowerment of our girls, we invest in the prosperity and stability of our communities and our nation.

“It is our collective responsibility to uplift and celebrate the accomplishments of our girls, knowing that they are the architects of our future,” she stressed.

She emphasized that their advocacy for safe spaces and opportunities for girls is not just for today, adding, “It is an ongoing commitment. It is a commitment to ensure that every girl in Plateau State is afforded the same opportunities to thrive and succeed.

“As we commemorate the International Day for the Girl-Child, let us stand together, united by the shared goal of a brighter and more equitable future for all our girls. Together, we can create a world where every girl is free to chase her dreams and is supported in her journey,” she said.

“In Plateau State, we are blessed with a diverse and vibrant community that transcends tribe, religion, and ethnic background. However, we are acutely aware that girls, regardless of these backgrounds, often face barriers and obstacles that limit their access to safe spaces and opportunities for growth and development,” she observed.
