JOS: The Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has urged citizens to trust his government and ensure the timely payment of their taxes, in order to fuel the state’s development initiatives.
Governor Mutfwang made the call during the launch of the Plateau Intelligent Revenue Billing System (PIRBS) at the Plateau State Internal Revenue House, Jos.
He underscored the significance of revenue as the “backbone of economic progress,” stressing its pivotal role in providing essential services and infrastructure for the people.
Acknowledging the shortfall in revenue collection over the years, the governor pledged to streamline taxation processes and prevent duplication of levies. He urged the revenue service staff to intensify efforts to meet the designated revenue targets for 2024.
Governor Mutfwang cautioned against undermining the newly introduced revenue system, aimed at plugging financial leakages, and called for the cooperation of the staff, while promising improved welfare packages as incentives.
“We cannot expect better compensation without enhancing our revenue capacity and efficiency collectively,” remarked Governor Mutfwang. He advocated a collaborative approach to bolster revenue collection within legal boundaries.
Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Jim Pam, expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for his commitment to enhancing revenue generation. He assured citizens that the Intelligent Revenue Billing System would enhance the state’s revenue base without unduly burdening them. Mr. Pam reiterated the revenue service’s dedication to transparent revenue coordination and creating a taxpayer-friendly environment.
