Tumu and Pindiga communities in Gombe State on Monday rejected the demand by the Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, to demolish and reconstruct the Tumu and Pindiga Friday Mosques.
The two communities of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe, led by their leaders expressed the rejection during an emergency meeting with the Emirate Council and all relevant stakeholders over the prevailing rumor of a plan to demolish the two Central Mosques of Pindiga and Tumu by the Senator.
During the meeting, District Head of the two communities and their king makers, together with relevant stakeholders were given free hand to express themselves about the Senator’s plan.
A statement issued by Secretary of Pindiga Emirate Council, Mohammed Audi, and released to newsmen in Gombe after the meeting indicated that the people of the communities have unanimously agreed that the two mosques are all in good conditions and up-to standard and, therefore, should be left as they are.
The communities demand that anybody willing to assist or develop the communities should look for other important projects that will contribute to the development of the areas.
The statement averred that: “All citizens of Pindiga Emirate will be informed and acquainted by the decision reached with regards to this rumour and conduct themselves in orderly manners.
“They should also avoid engaging in any action that will cause or tend to cause confusion to their people.
“With due respect and honour, we are notifying all the appropriate authorities of our stand – that, our people rejected the demand of Sen. Muhammad Danjuma Goje of his intention to demolish the Central Masjids of Pindiga and Tumu for now.”
