NDLEA State Commander, Samson Agboalu, briefing journalists in his office.

Not less than 365 persons in possession of illicit drugs in Adamawa State have been nabbed in 2023 by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), while 174 were convicted.

The State Commander of NDLEA, Samson Agboalu, disclosed this to newsmen in Adamawa, while reviewing the activities of his office, noting that, a total sum of N821,270 was seized from suspects into the coffers of  the Federal Government.

According to him, the Command seized 1,845.074 kilograms of different types of drugs from the suspects, adding that “Monetary exhibit forfeited to the Federal Government stands at N821,270 only.”

He said, cannabis sativa, tramadol, diazepam, Rohypnol, methamphetamine (ice) and cough syrup were the most prosecuted drugs in the year under review.

He revealed that, the prosecution and legal services of the State Command secured the final forfeiture of three motor vehicles and one motorcycle.

The Commander also revealed that, “Comparatively, the operational efforts of the command in 2022 and 2023 have encouraging results, and there was a decrease in arrests by 25 percent (457 suspects in 2022, compared to 365 in 2023), while in terms of seizures, there is a 33 percent increase (1,242.182kg seizures in 2022 compared to 1,845.070 kg in 2023).”

Commander Samson Agboalu said it’s a serious drop in that, in curtailing illicit drug dealings in the State, the Command had deployed drug intelligence personnel to offices newly established in each of the 21 LGAs of the State.

He, however, commended the Chairman/CEO, Brigadier-General Buba M. Marwa, for establishing NDLEA in all parts of the country and offices in 21 local government areas in Adamawa State.
