The Federal Government on Monday staged a 2 days’ “Project Coordination and Review” Workshop in the City of Jos, to re-examine sustainable water supply services in four States of the Federation.
Managing Director of Kano State Water Board, Engr. Garba Ahmed Bichi, while speaking at the event said the 2 days’ Project Coordination and Review workshop was part of annual project review process, which is conducted twice every year, with the previous session that was held in Ondo State.
He revealed that, the Federal Government had adopted a “national strategy vision 2020” in 2009, which was aimed at improving the living conditions of the population in improving access to sustainable water supply services. Kano, Plateau, Enugu and Ondo States were accorded the priorities as the urban water sectors in the project.
Speaking with our Correspondent in Jos on Monday shortly after the opening of the 2 days’ Project Coordination and Review workshop, the MD said the purpose of the workshop was to review and assess the existing position of ongoing projects across all the four (4) states.
According to him, the workshop is aimed to identify the challenges, evaluate progress, and determine future direction, saying that Kano State is progressing rapidly with the Agence Francaise De Development (AFD) project, the implementation of which is divided into two distinct phases.
He said the phase is nearing completion, with the performance levels reported between 90 percent and 100 percent, adding that, the project is currently transitioning into the infrastructure work phase.
Engr. Ahmed Bichi further pointed out that once these hard components are completed, water distribution will be expanded into various nooks and crannies throughout the state.
“So, normally, when we come to this kind of a program, it’s just a review of existing position of the projects going on in all the four states of the federation. So, we reviewed on the last April.
“This will not affect the Plateau State only but all other states will also have their own projects reviewed. From there, then we see our challenges, our progress and decide on what is next,” he said.
