Following the recent attack on Ratatis (Dorowa Babuje) in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, there was tension in the state capital, from Monday to Tuesday.

Our Correspondent reports that, some shops at Terminus Market were not open for fear of violence or attacks, while the “Matro Buses” from Terminus suspended their activities to the Terminus Bus-stop, for fear of attack. Business was not as usual. But security personnel were visible within the state capital.

In the interim, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, on Tuesday embarked on an operational visit to strategic locations, key points and flashpoints within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis. 

The visit was part of proactive measures put in place to prevent crime and criminality, and to reassure the public that, Plateau is calm. 

The areas visited include Gengre Community, Central Mosque Terminus, Bauchi Road, Zololo Junction, Gadan Bako, and Gada Biu. 

During the visit, CP Ewah conducted security assessment and made adequate deployment of personnel and other operational assets to the areas, in order to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

He also engaged with critical stakeholders and community leaders to explore collaborative efforts and dialogue towards maintaining peace in the general area.

While showing a willingness to apply force where the need arise, the Plateau State Police Command is committed to peaceful dialogue with all stakeholders in ensuring peace and security on the Plateau. 

As an additional measure to maintain peace and douse tension in the State, a joint patrol team comprising of the Police, the military, the DSS and other sister security agencies has been set up to enhance security across the state, and are currently engaged in a show-of-strength across the nooks and crannies of Jos city. 

The Commissioner of Police, therefore, appeals to the people of Plateau State to cooperate with the Police and other law enforcement agencies by providing timely and accurate information. “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.” 

He urged them to report any suspicious activities within their environment to the nearest Police Station or contact their control room (emergency room).

Meanwhile, Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Barr John K. Christopher, has debunked rumour insinuating that there is any curfew imposed within the state capital.

A statement signed and issued by the Chairman indicated thus: “This is to inform the general public that there is NO CURFEW in place, in Jos North Local Government Council and its environs.

“In the light of recent incidents, security measures have been heightened to ensure the safety of all residents. Security operatives are on high alert to contain any situation.

“Citizens are advised to go about their normal daily activities without fear or panic,” it added, and urged everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The LGA Chairman assured the people that everything is under control, and they are working to maintain peace and stability in Jos North.
