The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Chikun Constituency in the 2027 Kaduna State House of Assembly election, Hon. Matthew Moses, has begun grassroots consultations with traditional rulers and community leaders, starting with a visit to the Sarki of Kamazou, Mallam Adamu Gambo Gabas Janruwa.
The visit was part of Hon. Moses’ ongoing engagement with stakeholders across Chikun LGA to seek support for his assembly bid and present his vision for people-centred representation.
The meeting began with prayers, after which Elder Oludare, who convened the gathering, introduced the candidate, according to a statement signed by media team of Hon. Matthew Moses and made available to our correspondent.
He highlighted Hon. Moses’ humanitarian interventions in Kamazou, including helping the community retrieve a transformer that had been with electricity authorities for over a year.
Elder Oludare also noted the candidate’s role in securing advanced fashion training for a community member through an empowerment programme.
He appealed for more inclusive representation for Kamazou, which he said had often been left out of government initiatives.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Matthew Moses said he had studied the terrain and understands the needs of the people of Chikun Constituency.
“I am ready to serve the people,” he said, pledging to prioritize grassroots development and ensure no community is left behind.
He was accompanied by Emmanuel Auta, Secretary; Wakinlin Yohanna, Gabas Mai Angwan; Jonathan Musa, Mai Angwan New Extension; David Bawa; Emmy Jato; Bagudu; Hon. Isaac Iliya; Koji Abrakson; Sarah Pius of the media team; and Kunle Adeyemi. Reverend S. Alo represented Wakin Yoruba, while Mai Angwan Maisamari, Jethro Emmanuel, sought leave due to the farming season.
Community leaders welcomed the candidate and urged him not to abandon them after the election. They also appealed to him to make only promises he could fulfill, saying, the people of Kamazou value humble leaders who respect and identify with them.
“The people are not driven by hunger but by leaders who respect them,” the leaders said, while assuring Hon. Moses of their support and describing him as “people-oriented.”
The Sarki of Kamazou applauded the visit, noting that Hon. Matthew Moses was the first candidate to engage the community in the current election season. He described it as evidence of genuine grassroots commitment.
Mai Angwan Maisamari and other leaders also thanked Elder Oludare for his consistent efforts in drawing attention and development to Kamazou.
“The Kamazou visit is part of Hon. Matthew Moses’ wider consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders and residents across Chikun Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections,” he said.
The NDC candidate said his campaign will focus on inclusive governance, empowerment programmes, and infrastructure that directly impacts communities.
