KADUNA: The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has expressed deep concern over consistent epileptic electric distribution in some parts of the state, calling on Governor Uba Sani-led administration’s intervention to improve the power supply.

This was contained in its communiqué, dated 24th October, 2025, made available to newsmen on Saturday in Kaduna State.

According to the communiqué, “Women Journalists held Congress in Kaduna, where members deliberated extensively on issues affecting the State and the welfare of its citizens, particularly women and children.”

It added that, “After robust discussions, the Congress called for Government to intervene on Power Supply in the area of state experiencing poor power supply for long.”

The Congress expressed deep concern over the epileptic power supply being experienced in some parts of Kaduna State.

It urged the State Government and relevant agencies to urgently intervene to improve electricity distribution, as the persistent outages continue to hamper economic activities and affect the quality of life of residents.

The communiqué, signed by Juliet Ekwenugo (Chairperson), Hauwa Mohammed (Secretary), as well as Hadiza Bello Abdullahi (Secretary, NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter), commended the State on Climate Governance Performance.

“NAWOJ Kaduna commended the Kaduna State Government for emerging in third position in the Nigeria Climate Governance Ranking,” describing the achievement as a remarkable milestone that reflects the State’s commitment to environmental sustainability and climate responsibility.

In another development, the Association expressed serious concern over the rising menace of scavengers in various parts of Kaduna State.

It noted that, “Beyond posing health and environmental risks, some of these scavengers have reportedly been involved in burglaries and theft, breaking into people’s homes and carting away valuables under the guise of ‘collecting scraps.’

“NAWOJ, therefore, called on the Kaduna State Government and relevant security agencies to regulate, monitor, and sanitize the activities of scavengers to curb criminality, safeguard communities, and promote public safety and environmental hygiene.

“The Congress applauded the State Government and its health partners for the ongoing Measles Vaccination Campaign aimed at protecting children against preventable diseases, urging parents and caregivers across the State to ensure full participation to safeguard the health and well-being of every child.

“The Congress noted with appreciation the commitment of the Kaduna State Government to host the 2026 NIPR (Public Relations) Week, and expressed optimism that the event will further promote professionalism, collaboration, and positive image-building for the State.

“On NAWOJ Kaduna’s Week of Activities, the Congress announced that NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter will commence a series of activities, under the theme, ‘Voices of Impact 2025: Women, Media & Social Change,’ beginning Wednesday, 29th October 2025.

“The activities will start with a Prison Visitation at the Kaduna Correctional Centre to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary, followed by a Medical Outreach at Sabon Gero Community, off Millennium City, Kaduna, in celebration of the International Day of the Girl-Child.

“The main event will hold on Saturday, 1st November 2025, at Arewa House, Kaduna. NAWOJ enjoins members, partners, and the general public to participate fully in these transformative programs aimed at amplifying women’s voices and advancing social change.

“NAWOJ Kaduna reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the ethics of journalism, while continuing to advocate for women’s empowerment, child welfare, good governance, and community development across Kaduna State and Nigeria at large,” it stated.
