Over ten thousand (10,000) Railway Slippers have been recovered from various suspects, and 4 suspects arrested and paraded before newsmen, by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Plateau State Command.
The four suspects were paraded before newsmen in Jos at the Command’s Headquarters in Jos, on Friday, by the Commandant, Ishaku Musa.
The Commandant revealed that, on the 24, January, 2025, based on a tip off by their Human Resource Persons their anti-Vandals Squad crack-down on Mai Rake Market, Bukuru, in Jos South Local Government Area of the state succeeded in the arrest of 4 suspected vandals of the said railway slippers.
According to him, those arrested include: one Abubakar Ibrahim, 32 years; Shaibu Hamza, 25 years; Nasiru Yekini, 33 years and Abubakar Bello, 19 years old, while one (1) truck vehicle, with registration number JJN80ZU with 33 full lengths and 22 short lengths of railway slippers.
While stating that, the suspects would be charged to court of law to be punished for their offences, the Commandant further explained that, the Command has recruited 50 Human Resource Persons, which will provide them with intelligence report, saying, “That is why we are getting this report.”
He added that, “We will collaborate with other security agencies in the state to rid the state of any criminal activities. We got a report that railway slippers are gathered in one particular area or the other. We quickly swamped into action to make sure the slippers are brought down in here, in order to safeguard them.”
Commandant Ishaku Musa further assured that, they would get more results, except the criminals stop, saying, “If not, we cannot sleep, and we are ever ready to carry out any action or war against any vandal or any act of criminality that aims at thwarting or intends to frustrate the good effort of the government in bringing succor to the good people of the state,” he said, and advised criminal elements to “turn a new leaf or relocate elsewhere.”
Also, the Deputy Commandant, Sati Haruna, of Area Commander, North Central District Area Command Kafanchan, said the materials were recovered from different locations and recent searching of a compound at Mista-Ali, near Jos, some couple of weeks ago.
“As you can see from the background, this are the materials recovered from there: two (2) trucks were recovered with the effort of the Plateau State NSCDC Command and the Railway District Manager; all were there,” he disclosed.
He commended the State Commandant for always being there for them and his men, who have recovered materials on so many occasions and arrested suspects in respect of the battle against criminals.
According to him, “These materials are being vandalised most especially along Kuru Station and Heipang, while from Kuru Station to Jos have two lengths, which comprise North Central District and North Eastern – the northeastern, that is Bauchi.
“We arrest them, based on the intelligence report, and we act on it, timely; once we get it, we normally arrest them at night.”
He warned the vandals – “It is no longer a play,” and assured the Commandant that they will give him the necessary support needed to ensure that these materials are being protected and that the menace of vandalisation should stop.
