The Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, is partnering with its Staff Cooperative Society to improve services and staff welfare.

The collaboration was formalized with the groundbreaking ceremony for the cooperative’s new secretariat on the university’s campus, on August 4th.

Vice-Chancellor of PLASU, Professor Shedrack Best, expressed confidence that the partnership will create new opportunities for growth and development at the university.

Represented by Associate Prof., Keziah Ayuba (who is Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration), Prof. Best congratulated the Plateau State University Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society for launching projects that directly benefit its members.

“We look forward to improved cooperation between the cooperative society and the university management to enhance service delivery and the welfare of staff,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor also reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting the project, saying, “We will continue to support you in any way possible, including towards the completion of this project.”

President of The Cooperative Society, Mr. Nansdl Nimyel, stated that the secretariat project, which will be constructed through direct labor, was initiated to improve the administration of the cooperative and provide better benefits to its members.

According to him, “When we came on board, we pledged to collaborate with management to secure land for the building of our secretariat during the foundation-laying ceremony.”

He acknowledged the university’s donation of the land for the project, adding that the project was a part of his campaign promises and was recently approved by the Cooperative’s Congress.

Also, Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the University’s Registrar, highlighted the unique role of the cooperative in improving the lives of its members, and expressed optimism about its future.

“I feel delighted to be part of this journey. When this Cooperative Society was born, some of us played key roles. We are delighted to see it growing and, in fact, I see it establishing a bank,” he stated.

Associate Prof., Shehu Alahde, the University’s Chief Librarian, also praised the cooperative, noting that he has been a member of a cooperative society since joining the civil service, in 2000, noting that, “When I came to PLASU, I didn’t hesitate to join, knowing its importance.”
