JOS: Within a few weeks in office, the Plateau State Police Command has started yielding positive results – with the arrest of culprits in criminal conspiracy, trespass, disturbance of public peace, kidnapping, and culpable homicide; the recent one being the arrest and parading of 16 suspects with various crimes.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Yabanet, disclosed this, while briefing newsmen on Tuesday at the Police Headquarters Jos, when he revealed that 3 women were rescued from kidnappers in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

In addition, he said, two Priests (from Pankshin Diocese) were rescued and one suspect was arrested, while other suspects were paraded for various offences committed in the state.

According to him, the suspect, who killed his father, had picked a pestle and hit his father during a minor misunderstanding. On the 20/02/2024 at about 6pm, information was received at the Anglo-Jos Division by a Good Samaritan that on 15/02/2024 at about 8pm, one Joseph Yakubu, male, 29yrs of Kambel Anglo-Jos had a minor misunderstanding with his father, one Yakubu Dalyop, aged 49yrs.

He said, “As a result, the son took a pounding pestle and hit the father on the head. The father became unconscious and was rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

“Unfortunately, he died on 19/02/2024, at about 1pm, while receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested, while the corpse was deposited at the same hospital mortuary,” he said.

The Police Commissioner said, the case was still under investigation and the suspect would be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.

According to him, after studying the security situation in the state, he had designed a new operational template for the command, which would flush out criminals from their nests across the state.

He assured the people of adequate protection of their lives and property, while soliciting their support and cooperation to achieve the objective.
