The Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has expressed his administration’s commitment to transforming education in the state, with a resolve to prioritize education as a tool for social transformation.

The State Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs Josephine Piyo, disclosed this during the distribution of back-to-school materials to support learners across 20 selected schools in Jos North and Mangu Local Government Areas of the state, while describing early education as an essential foundation for development.

“I truly commend State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Oando Foundation for the concerted efforts to reintegrate out-of-school children into the Basic Education system and improve access to education in the state. This collaboration is a model for effective public/ private partnership.

“Investing in our children is investing in the future of Plateau State. Every child, regardless of their background, must have access to quality education,” he said.

Also speaking, SUBEB’s Executive Secretary, Mr Sunday Amuna, while giving an overview of the longstanding partnership between the Board and the Oando Foundation, disclosed that the state has received intervention, in terms of scholarship, renovation, supply of computers, books and training of teachers, among others, in six adopted schools.

He added that, “In 2024, the Foundation adopted 20 schools from Mangu and Jos North to support learning materials that will improve literacy and numeracy in young school children.”

Head of Oando Foundation, Ms Sonia Uduimoh, emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to supporting education across Nigeria, particularly in under-served communities.

She highlighted the success of the Learnovate-Flip (back-to-school) program, which she said has mobilized over 8,000 children back to school by providing uniforms, school supplies, and psychological support.
