Seven (7) critical bills have been successfully passed by the Plateau State House of Assembly. House Speaker, Rt Hon Gabriel Dewan, disclosed this, while briefing newsmen in Jos.
He described the difficulties faced by the 10th Assembly, saying that, the first part of his tenure, which began in November, was disruptive with political disagreements and challenges to the assimilation of both new and returning members.
“However, the parliament managed to resolve these problems without causing any delays to its legislative sessions. Two out of the seven bills have been approved by the governor, while others are still waiting,” he stated.
According to him, the two bills include (a) the Plateau State Electricity Bill and (b) Plateau State Minimum Wage Bill, which is aimed to improve infrastructural and economic conditions, are among the most significant measures passed.
The Assembly also adopted motions for the resettlement of internally-displaced persons and for enhancing scholarship opportunities for Plateau indigenes.
He commended the Assembly members for their unwavering commitment to their legislative duties and their ability to set aside political differences to work for the benefit of the state’s citizens.
