The nationwide protest against economic hardship by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recorded low turnout in day-1 in Kaduna State.
Our correspondent, who monitored the event in Kaduna, reported that only a few workers participated in the peaceful protest in the state on 27th February 2023.
The workers converged at the State Secretariat of the congress, located along road to Angwan Rimi, off Independence Way, as early as 8am where the protest commenced.
The workers, led by the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman, marched from their secretariat to Lord Lugard Hall Roundabout, also along Independence Way, amid heavy police protection.
Accordingly, they were carrying various placards with different inscriptions, calling for an end to insecurity, hunger and poverty in the country.
They workers also said the current minimum wage cannot buy a 50kg bag of rice, and demanded for a new minimum wage.
A good spirited member bought biscuits and water and shared to the protesters during the procession. Security operatives were deployed to strategic locations within Kaduna metropolis to prevent any attempt to hijack the peaceful protest that lasted for about an hour.
