A disturbing situation is unfolding in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, where a Christian convert, Miss Zainab Muhamadu, faces trial in a Sharia Court for adopting Christianity, leading to gradual growing tension.
An abstract shared widely by Christian bodies, in search of support for her, stated that “A disturbing situation is unfolding in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, where a Christian convert, Miss Zainab Muhamadu, faces trial in a Sharia Court for adopting Christianity.”
It further stated that, “Her journey to Christianity began when she met NYSC member, Samuel, a pastor who refrained from pressuring her for sex and instead shared his faith with her. Upon discovery of her newfound faith, Zainab faced severe repercussions.
“Zainab’s trial is set to begin this Friday, and concerns are rising about the potential consequences she may face. Given the sensitive nature of the case and the fact that many officials in Zamfara State are Muslims, there are fears that her rights may not be adequately protected.
“In the light of this situation, an urgent appeal is made to devote Christians to pray for God’s intervention and to support Zainab in her ordeal. Additionally, assistance is sought for Samuel, who is grappling with the situation and requires guidance on the next steps to take.
“Efforts are being made to argue that, Zainab, as a Christian, should not be tried in a Sharia Court.
“However, given the local context, it is crucial to secure support from relevant authorities and organizations that can provide legal and emotional assistance to Zainab and Samuel. I call on Churches to pray for them!,” it stated.
The statement also observed that the contact of those behind the circular could not be posted here – for obvious reasons. “Please, I can’t post their contacts here; please, DM me!,” it added.
