…Concludes 2025 “Awareness Week”

The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) has successfully concluded its 2025 Sensitization and Awareness Week, which held from Monday, 8th to Wednesday, 10th December, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs Unit, Nuhu Garba Dan-Ayamaka, the programme was described as the first of its kind in the history of KASUPDA. 

The sensitization week, which was organised under the theme: ‘Build Right, Live Safe – Obtain Proper Approvals,’ featured a range of activities, including Rally,

Media engagements, Football match competition, Town hall meeting, Allied professionals’ site inspection and sensitization visits.

Others were launch of the Certificate of Fitness and Habitation, Inauguration of KASUPDA Ambassador, respectively.

During the rally, the Director-General of KASUPDA, Bldr. Abdurrahman Yahya, Ph.D, alongside members of the management team, led staff of the Authority across major parts of Kaduna Metropolis. Flyers were distributed to residents, while sensitizing them on the importance of obtaining proper development approvals before commencing any construction or land-related activity.

As part of the media programme, the Director-General granted interviews during the rally, town hall meeting, and live studio programmes on the following media platforms: ‘Freedom Radio (92.9 FM) – Hausa programme’ “Barka Da Warhaka”, ‘DITV Alheri Radio (97.7 FM) – Hausa programme’ “Zare Da Abawa”, ‘KSMC – English programme’ “Eye 2 Eye”, ‘Invicta FM – English programme’ “Special Spot.” 

KASUPDA, in collaboration with allied professionals, carried out site inspection and sensitization visits to the following locations: Nurus Siraj Estate, Millennium City, Asa Estate, Namadi Sambo Close, Millennium City, Development along Kagoro Road, Ungwan Rimi, Development along Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Way, Millennium City equally.

During these visits, issues such as encroachment, blockage of access roads and waterways, lack of parking spaces, and inadequate ventilation were identified. Professional recommendations were provided to address the observed challenges.

To promote collaboration, synergy, and good working relationships among government agencies, professionals, and other stakeholders, the programme featured a football match competition, with the Director-General officiating the quarter-final, semi-final, and final matches.

A town hall meeting was held in Rigasa, reputed to be the largest district in Nigeria. During the meeting, residents were enlightened on the mandate and functions of KASUPDA, and flyers were distributed for further information.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the Chairman of Rigasa Action and Awareness Forum (RAAF), Malam Yusuf Wada Muhammad, pledged the community’s commitment to supporting KASUPDA in sensitizing residents and addressing issues of encroachment and decongestion within the area. Consequently, KASUPDA Management appointed Malam Yusuf Wada Muhammad as KASUPDA Ambassador for Rigasa Area.

In separate remarks, stakeholders, including the District Secretary, Isma’il Muhammed; Councillor, Rigasa Ward, Hon. Ahmed Auwal; Chairman of RAAF, Malam Yusuf Wada Muhammad; DPO of Rigasa Area, SP Lawal Kanoma, and others commended the Director-General for his initiative. They also expressed appreciation to His Excellency, Malam Uba Sani, for his people-centred leadership

As part of the programme, the Director-General officially launched the Certificate of Fitness and Habitation, aimed at ensuring that developments meet safety standards for the protection of lives and property. This was followed by the formal inauguration of Malam Yusuf Wada Muhammad as KASUPDA Ambassador in Rigasa.

In his remarks across the various activities, Bldr. Abdurrahman Yahya, Ph.D, expressed satisfaction with the increasing compliance by members of the public, noting that more applications were received by KASUPDA in 2025 than in previous years.

He emphasized that KASUPDA is a public service institution working directly for the people, adding that the sensitization drive aligns with the commitment of His Excellency, Sen. Uba Sani, to inclusive governance and public welfare. He urged residents to take advantage of the administration’s human-centred approach by ensuring they obtain proper approvals before embarking on any development.

The Director-General reaffirmed KASUPDA’s commitment to orderly urban development, public safety, and the protection of lives and property across Kaduna State.
