Governor Uba Sani-led administration has entered into a strategic partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to accelerate energy access, deepen investment opportunities, and drive sustainable industrial growth through renewable energy solutions.

The collaboration was formalized during a Renewable Energy Roundtable, presided over by Governor Uba Sani, and jointly organized by the REA and the Kaduna State Government through Kaduna Power Company (KAPSCO).

The theme of the event, ‘From Policy to Impact: Sustaining the New Kaduna State Electricity Market for Access, Investment & Industrial Growth,’ convened distinguished assembly leaders of thought, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to deliberate on advancing Nigeria’s sub-national energy transition agenda.

Speaking at the roundtable, Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to “creating a transparent and investor-friendly electricity market anchored on policy clarity, innovation, and sustainability,” according to a statement shared by Information Commissioner Hon. Ahmed Maiyaki, Thursday.

“Our administration is fully committed to building a modern electricity market that encourages investment, supports industrial growth, and provides affordable, reliable energy for our people,” the governor said.

“Through this partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency, we are taking deliberate steps to power communities, empower businesses, and strengthen our economic base,” it stated.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between the Kaduna State Government and the REA. The agreement seeks to establish tailored electrification strategies and implement sustainable decentralized solar power solutions across un-served and under-served communities in the State.

Governor Sani emphasized that Kaduna is strategically positioned to serve as a national model for renewable energy development, leveraging its abundant solar, biomass, and hydro resources to power industries and uplift communities.

“Kaduna is blessed with enormous renewable energy potential,” he stated. “With the right partnerships and policies, we are determined to transform that potential into real impact – powering industries, uplifting rural communities, and ensuring no one is left behind in our development journey.”

In his remarks, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, commended Governor Uba Sani for his “forward-thinking” policies and commitment to sustainable energy transition.

“Governor Uba Sani’s leadership has created a framework that encourages innovation and investor confidence,” Mr. Aliyu said.

“Our collaboration with Kaduna will support mini-grids, off-grid projects, and rural electrification schemes that will improve livelihoods and stimulate local economies.”

The partnership aims to strengthen Kaduna State’s capacity to design and implement tailored electrification strategies that will extend power access to rural, under-served, and un-served communities.

It will also provide both technical and financial support for off-grid and mini-grid projects, thereby helping the State develop an independent and resilient electricity market.

In addition, the collaboration will promote off-grid solutions that enhance electricity access in remote locations and reduce reliance on the national grid. By facilitating Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), the initiative will attract private investment, expand the State-level electricity market, and accelerate the transition towards cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

The partnership, between Kaduna State and the REA, represents a practical step towards achieving the State’s Energy Transition and Industrialization Plan, advancing Nigeria’s broader commitment to sustainable energy and inclusive growth.
