Kaduna Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM) and State Primary Health Care Board have held a One-Day Advocacy Meeting with Ministry of Health (MoH) on the Integration of High Impact Practices (HIPs) in Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCH+N).

The meeting, which held Tuesday, 23th September, 2025, in Conference Hall of State Primary Healthcare Board (SPHCB), Magajin Gari, Kaduna, by 10 am, dwelt on its objective, mostly on sensitization of key health strengthening and budget officers.

Amongst objectives include: “Like yourselves – on the urgent need to integrate proven, cost-effective interventions into Kaduna’s health policies, strategies, and programs,” presented by co-chair of KADMAM, Alh. Garba Mohammed, in his opening remarks.

“Distinguished colleagues from the Ministry of Health, the State Primary Health Care Board, Budget and Planning departments, MNCH+N officers, implementing partners, Civil Society, and the Media;

“Good morning, it is a privilege to welcome you all to this important advocacy meeting, organized by the Kaduna Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM), focused on a shared priority: strengthening maternal, neonatal, child health and nutrition (MNCH+N) outcomes across Kaduna State through the integration of evidence-based High Impact Practices (HIPs).

“Let me begin by appreciating the State Government – particularly His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani – for the steady progress in strengthening Kaduna’s health system, including the recent signing of the Kaduna State Mental Health Law and the ongoing BHCPF health insurance enrolment drive.

“These steps show political commitment to making health services more inclusive and accessible. However, as we know, the real work lies in implementation, funding, and scale-up,” Garba said.

He also said, “The objective of today’s meeting is to sensitize key health and budget officers – like yourselves – on the urgent need to integrate proven, cost-effective interventions into Kaduna’s health policies, strategies, and programs.

“These High Impact Practices and MNCH+N best buys have been tested and validated globally, and offer clear pathways to reducing maternal and child mortality, improving nutrition, and achieving value for investment in health.

“We also aim to advocate for increased political and budgetary commitment to ensure that these practices are not just acknowledged in plans, but funded, implemented, and monitored effectively – especially within the State Strategic Health Development Plan and the PHC service delivery system,” he stated.

According to him, “To achieve this, we must work collaboratively across departments – planning, budgeting, service delivery, monitoring and evaluation – to ensure alignment and accountability.

“The role of implementing directors, budget officers, and technical leads is critical in translating policy aspirations into measurable health outcomes.

“Finally, we seek your support and commitment in building sustainable systems that will ensure these high-impact interventions reach the communities that need them most – particularly women, newborns, and children in rural and underserved areas.

“Let us use today’s dialogue to strengthen our shared accountability and chart a clear path forward. Thank you for your time, your dedication, and your continued leadership in building a healthier Kaduna,” he stated.

The occasion also witnessed other Paper Presentations and Goodwill Messages on the SPHCB and SMoH, High impact Practices and NMCH+best buys in Kaduna State.
