JOS: Following the recent employment exercise in Plateau State Civil Service, which was carried out barely three months to the end of the previous administration, the State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, had inaugurated a Standing Committee to review the new employments – with a view to “strengthening possible crooked areas.”

The Committee has completed the assignment and submitted their report, which has been adopted by the State Executive Council.

A statement regarding this development was signed and issued to newsmen in Jos by the Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, on Tuesday.

The government had set up committees and panels to make appropriate recommendations in respect to the employments in the Plateau State Civil Service. 

The draft of the White Paper Standing Committee has come up with the following recommendations, which the Plateau State Executive Council has adopted.

Its stated that, “Ministry of Mineral Development, Judicial Service Commission, committee upholds the exercise as the Commission enjoys autonomy, Office of the Deputy Governor, Ministry of Water Resources and Energy and Plateau State Solid Minerals Development Agency are, by this declaration, the Staff of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies highlighted above, and are to resume work immediately, while government makes effort to clear the arrears of their salaries and other benefits. 

“However, the following MDAs will undergo proper scrutiny and review in ensuring that capable hands are given requisite responsibilities. 

“These include, Ministry of Lands, Surveys and Town Planning, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ministry of Finance. 

“Others are: Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Ministry of Housing, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Science and Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Ministry of Women Affairs. 

“Also, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Education (Secondary), Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Transport and Hospitals Management Board. 

“To join the queue are: The Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Plateau Agricultural Development Programme, Plateau State Contributory Health Insurance Management Agency, Plateau State Energy Corporation, Plateau State Primary Health Care Board,

Plateau State Sports Council and Road Maintenance Agency. 

More on the list are: Plateau State Information, Communication Development Agency, Office of the Auditor-General, Office of the Accountant-General, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Civil Service Commission, Plateau State University, Bokkos, College of Education, Gindiri, College of Agriculture, Garkawa, College of Arts, Remedial Sciences and Technology, Kurgwi, Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, College of Health Technology, Pankshin, College of Health Technology, Zawan and College of Nursing and Midwifery, Vom. 

“While on Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, government frowns at the involvement of Civil Service Commission in its employment and directs review to reflect even spread.

“Government rejects and outrightly cancels the following employments: Disability Rights Commission, Plateau State Water and Sanitation Agency, Relevant Technology Board, Jos Metropolitan Development Board, Office of the Auditor-General Local Government, Government House Administration, and Bureau of Statistics. 

“The government also directs that in reviewing or carrying out fresh employment exercise, competence, capacity, capability and State Character Principle must reflect even-spread across the 17 LGAs that make up Plateau State, and consideration shall be given to ad-hoc or casual staff in those MDAs or institutions,” the statement averred.
