JOS: Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has led a delegation of prominent sons of the state on a strategic visit to the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to press for the urgent dualization of the Akwanga-Jos Road.
Governor Mutfwang explained that the Akwanga-Jos Road is a critical federal highway that serves as the main gateway into Plateau State and plays a vital role in linking the North Central region with other parts of the country. He noted that the road is central to commerce, mobility, and regional integration.

The governor noted also that the present condition of the road poses serious safety risks, impedes economic activities, and undermines the smooth movement of people and goods.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for ‘adopting’ the Akwanga-Jos Road as one of his legacy projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Mutfwang further highlighted the immense benefits of the project, including enhanced security, reduced travel time, increased trade, and accelerated socio-economic development for Plateau and neighbouring States.
He added that the people of Plateau State would be deeply grateful, if the dualization of the road is accorded priority, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
Responding, the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, warmly welcomed the governor and commended him for aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, and assured the governor of the Federal Government’s commitment to the signing and commencement of the dualization of the Akwanga-Jos Road project.
The Minister acknowledged the strategic importance of the road and pledged to give the request “due consideration” within the framework of available resources and ongoing national infrastructure plans.
He consequently directed relevant officers to immediately engage with the contractor to facilitate the signing of the contract and the commencement of work.
