The eldest son of former Governor of Kaduna State, Bello el-Rufai, has debunked rumors making rounds that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had raided his Kaduna official residence and found money in different currencies stashed in vaults.

Bello el-Rufai, who is the current House of Representatives Member, Representing Kaduna North, in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, described the allegations as not only “false” but also “a calculated effort” to undermine his credibility and distract him from public service.

Recalled that, there have been rumors making rounds that EFCC uncovered $800 million, N700 billion cash, N1 trillion worth of drugs at Nasir el-Rufai’s son’s residence in Kaduna.

Bello el-Rufai, in a statement he signed and issued to newsmen in Kaduna, disclosed that he does not own a residence in Kaduna, and that their family home is in Ungwar Sarki, where he stayed, and it has been home for him right from birth.

According to him, the unfounded allegation was nothing but a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, tarnish his reputation, and sow the seed of confusion.

“My constituents that I represent know what will happen, if I was blessed with such figures. For those sponsoring these ignorant attacks, I assure you that we will continue to serve the people, and we will continue to enjoy how it annoys them. Quality, frank, and honest representation is here to stay in Kaduna North,” he said.

Bello el-Rufai, however, strongly condemned the use of fake news to manipulate public perception and instigate discord, stressing that “The attempt to connect him to illicit activities through unfounded allegations was not only defamatory but an affront to the principles of justice and fairness,” he stated.

He maintained that his legal team would institute legal action against some media outfits, and the money they pay for their lies would be put to good use in Kaduna North.

Bello El-Rufai explained that the image being circulated was originally published in Vanguard, in April 2017.
