Young people in Plateau State have been urged to always be firm in pursuing the right cause in their lives.
President of Church of Christ in Nation (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, made this assertion, while responding to a presentation of an Award Of Recognition to him by West African Students Union Parliament, which was held during the week at the Board Room of the Church Headquarters, in Jos, Plateau State capital.
He appreciated the group, saying, “They are young people growing to meet their potential, and we are happy to welcome you. Don’t fear; you are growing, and we are happy that you want to grow.
“What you are doing is that you are learning by going into different sectors, trying to practice what you are learning in the classrooms. We want to encourage you to stand firm and do the right thing. So, may God bless you,” he added.
He appreciated the Students’ Parliament for considering him worthy of the prestigious award, adding that it will motivate him and others to continue their efforts and set a powerful example for others.
“I am particularly honoured that I was nominated for this award during the pre-annual Convention at the University of Ghana, Legon Accra, a place that signifies unity and collaboration among West African students,” he said.
The COCIN President noted that, the gathering demonstrates the strength of their shared vision and commitment to building a better future for the next generation.
Said he: “I dedicate this honour to our region’s young people and COCIN youths, whose potential is yet to be fully realized. My hope is that this recognition will inspire them to strive for excellence, lead with integrity, and consistently seek to uplift others,” he said.
Rev. Dr. Mohzo commended the commitment of the West African Students Union Parliament to the cause of students and youth development in West Africa, and encouraged them to work together to empower the youths and build “bridges of understanding” among them to achieve their full potential.
Earlier, the Nigeria Coordinator of the Parliament, Vincent Abel, from Benue State University, who led the delegation, said in the COCIN President they see a possibility of a new West Africa; hence, the award of recognition of his selfless service to God and humanity.
Vincent Abel added that, “The sands of time have recorded successfully his gargantuan contributions to human capacity development, academic progress, sound administrative delivery, national integration, economic progress, peaceful coexistence, institutional strengthening and national reformation.
“Sir, in you we see the possibility of a new West Africa. Wth your likes the youths have hope, with your equals the West Africa and the world at large will progress; you are an inevitable element in changing the perception of youths,” he said.
The Parliament also decorated the COCIN President with a 5-star medal during the award presentation.
The West African Students’ Union Parliament, which was founded since August 1925, is the prime students’ body that, among other things, is saddled with the sole responsibility of coordinating the activities of West African Students.
Among other Church officials at the presentation of the award to the COCIN President were: Deputy General Secretary, Rev. Dinfa Mamshal, Director of Personnel, Rev. Ishaku Afan, Director of Church Growth, Rev. James Ayizeh and Director of Evangelism and Mission, Rev. John Dayuru.
