The Management and entire Staff of the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security says it’s wishing and felicitating with fellow Nigerians on the great historic occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

A statement issued and signed by the Hon. Commissioner of the Ministry, Prof. Usman Tar, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday has disclosed.

It noted that, “While observing the Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with mixed feelings in the State, following the recent devastating flood that engulfed the ancient city of Maiduguri, Jere and parts of Mafa and Dikwa LGAs, its heartwarming to acknowledge their 64th years of coexistence as a nation with many tribes, tongues and beliefs but yet united in diversity.

He said as country marks the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s proclamation of independence from British Rule on 1 October 1960, “it is indeed heartwarming to acknowledge our 64 years of coexistence as a nation with many tribes, tongues and beliefs but yet united in diversity.”

He also stated that, despite of their setbacks in Borno State as a result of both human and natural disasters, the BOSG is on track in its agenda of repositioning Borno and rebuilding it back and better.

“The quantum of projects and programs reeled out in the past 6 years of Gov Zulum’s Administration show that with a visionary and committed leadership supported by a team of trustworthy lieutenants and supporters, even a ravaged State like Borno has pulled itself out of misery and hopelessness into the El Dorado of sustainable development, peace and tranquility.

“We are grateful to His Excellency, Gov Zulum, for his exemplary leadership style, the Borno State Executive Council, the Flood Disaster Management Committee and the Flood Relief Disbursement Committee for their insights and commitment.

“We are equally grateful to those, who contributed in cash or kind, to the Disaster Relief Fund, and those who sent their prayers and best wishes as we come to terms with the disaster. We are not taking your kind gestures for granted.

“Nigeria is the only country we have. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to celebrate and pray for Peace and Prosperity to reign in our fatherland. May this Independence Anniversary inspire us to work more for the development of Nigeria and Nigerians,” he stated.
