The Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, has disclosed that the 8th Assembly, since its inception, has passed twenty “significant” bills.

He made this disclosure during the presentation of the 2025 Proposed Budget by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

The Speaker described the Assembly’s legislative performance as a cornerstone of the state’s development agenda.

While highlighting the Assembly’s achievements, he said, 51 bills were introduced, with 20 successfully passed and signed into law. 

According to him, the bills include transformative policies such as the Adamawa State Appropriation Law, 2024; Adamawa State Information Technology Development Agency Law, and the Teachers Service Commission Law.

Others include critical legislation encompassed reforms in healthcare, local governance, and education, including the establishment of the Adamawa State Health Supplies Management Agency and the College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology in Ganye.

Rt. Hon. Wesley noted that, “These laws reflect their commitment in fostering progress and meeting the development needs of Adamawa State. The Assembly’s unity and purpose have been instrumental in achieving these milestones.”

The Adamawa Legislative Leader also demonstrated robustly with oversight functions, which ensured effective monitoring of the implementation of the 2024 budget.

He pointed out the achievements of Governor Fintiri’s administration for its exemplary performance, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and civil service reforms, noting visible progress in these areas.

These led to the adoption of several key resolutions, including motions for employing qualified teachers across the state and confidence votes in both the Governor and the Speaker; the Assembly’s Speaker’s dedication to maintaining a productive relationship with the executive arm, which has facilitated seamless governance.

When Governor Fintiri presented the 2025 budget proposal, Wesley reaffirmed the legislatures’ commitment to its timely passage, lauding the administration’s consistency in presenting budgets annually in December for implementation by January.

“The Adamawa State House of Assembly will continue to prioritize legislation that fosters growth, ensures good governance, and uplifts the people of our state,” he added.

Fintiri’s budget presentation is set to build on the successes of the administration’s transformative policies and solidify its commitment to Adamawa development.
