The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Kaduna State, Hon. Usman S. Bawa, has petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA) over the alleged removal of his campaign billboards in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of the State.
In a formal petition, dated 22nd October, 2026, addressed to the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja, Bawa called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
According to the petition, eyewitnesses informed him that individuals described as armed military personnel arrived in three Hilux vehicles and removed the billboards.
Bawa said he does not presently have independent confirmation of the identity, affiliation or authority of the individuals involved and, therefore, requested that relevant authorities verify the matter.
He stated that eyewitnesses alleged that the individuals removed the campaign billboards and warned persons present not to take photographs or record videos.
“Some witnesses reported that a threat to shoot anyone, who attempted to do so, was made,” the petition stated.
The guber candidate said he has not independently verified the identity of the persons involved or the precise wording of the alleged threat, and requested that the matters be investigated and any available evidence preserved.
He noted that the reported incident may have implications for the safety of residents and the conduct of lawful political activities, and urged authorities to determine whether any person acted without lawful authority, whether any threat was made, and whether any offence or breach of procedure occurred.
Bawa appealed to the NSA to direct or facilitate an impartial investigation, establish the identities, affiliations and authority of those involved, determine whether they were members of the Nigerian Armed Forces or any other security or government agency, and investigate the eyewitness reports concerning the alleged threat.
“This petition is submitted in good faith for the purpose of requesting clarification, public safety, and accountability. It is not intended to attribute criminal or improper conduct to any individual or institution before the facts have been established,” he said.
He added that he remains willing to provide further information and cooperate with any lawful investigation, and attached photographs of the billboards before and after the alleged removal.
The petition was copied to the Chief of Defence Staff, Nigerian Armed Forces, the Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Convener, National Peace Committee.
As of the time of filing this report, the NSA and security agencies were yet to issue an official response to the petition.
