As part of proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of all residents, the Plateau State Police Command has established a Joint Security Patrol team, comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Military and other security agencies.
“The Command is, therefore, pleased to inform the general public that our team has successfully foiled an attempted security breach at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in the late hours of Wednesday, 1st July, 2026.”
A statement was signed and issued to journalists in Jos by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Alfred Alabo, in which it stated that, “At about 11:23pm of 1st July, 2026, our team, while on routine patrol within the premises of the Institute, sighted an armed suspect lurking near the first gate of the facility.
“Upon sighting the security personnel, the suspect immediately opened fire on the Patrol Team. The operatives responded professionally and, with superior tactical precision, they engaged the suspect and overpowered him. As a result of the operation, the suspect was neutralized.
“One AK-47 rifle with Breech No. 1969003173 was recovered from his possession. The corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy, in accordance with due process.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a member of a notorious criminal syndicate. Consequently, security operatives have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.
“The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, psc(++), FCAI, MSPSP, commends the gallantry, vigilance, and synergy displayed by the Police and Military personnel whose swift response prevented what could have resulted in a serious security breach at one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic institutions.
“The Command, therefore, reassures residents of Plateau State that the security architecture across the State remains robust, and all critical national assets and public infrastructure are adequately protected. Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agency,” the statement added.
