In Kaduna, there are several markets too many to mention. However, Kurmin Mashi Market is one that stands out as an “eyes popping commercial centre” for most people, especially the womenfolk – for ‘cheaper’ goods.

Popularly known as “Kurmin Mashi Weekly Market” – a square that beefed-up business activities to climax every Thursday – the market draws its population of buyers and sellers from far and near across the State on weekly basis.

Although, there are close bye few community competitors, including Kawo and Kasuwan Magaini markets, Sabon Tasha, Ungwan Romi and a host of others, Kurmin Mashi Market has distinguished itself for its uniqueness, in terms of strategic position, decency and aesthetic appearance.

Our Correspondent, who visited the market, attested to the fact that, the East and West gates to the market, situated between Kaduna Expressway bypass and Kaduna City contributed to its growth and patronage.

Accordingly, the decades of gentle inhabitance are indication of the peaceful coexistence community of a place heavily mixed with Christian and Muslim population.

Speaking to Mallam Usman Abubakar and Mr Chidi Nganga, who are two regular marketers, they expressed satisfaction with the general conduct and behavior of the people in the area. According to them, there is hardly anything to show religious differences or bias when the Thursday Weekly Market comes on board.

“We understand ourselves and we know we are there for a purpose, and the purpose is for buying and selling, provide goods and services to earn leaving for ourselves and families. So, why should anybody behave funny?,” they said.

They, however, commended the State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, the security operatives, the vigilantes for maintaining law and order and providing enabling environment for them to do their business without hindrance at all times.
