The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, who doubles as Chairman Senate Committee on Tourism, Sen. (Prince) Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, has revealed that, about 1,200 persons have been registered, and who have benefited from his Constituency from an insurance scheme known as ‘Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Engagement Agency’ (PLASCHEMA). The exercise, he said, has targeted the poor and the less-privileged and vulnerable in the State.

The Senator disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing Newsmen at the NUJ Press Center Jos.

According to him, about 150 women were selected for business upgrade, out of which 30 of them have so far started something, adding that the next batch would be this month, while the last batch is billed for July. 

He explained that, the Zonal Intervention Project (ZIP) and the Supplementary Budget of 2024 was used to carry out an empowerment at Zang Commercial Secondary School, in Bukuru, where over 200 women and youths where beneficiaries of the training in poultry and other agricultural training.

Sen. Dachungyang explained further that, Plateau State have over 700 constituents, saying that, beneficiaries who received training in agriculture were backed-up with starter-packs and cash for start-up, while others received fertilizer and other agricultural inputs, and 22 went home with brand-new special-purpose tricycles.

He added that, he has had goneahead to offset WAEC fees for students of GDS Kwata in Jos South and GSS Riyom, and also settled tuition fees of Plateau North students in Maritime Academy, Oron, who were almost thrown out of school.

Furthermore, he also paid a substantial amount to augment the school fees for his constituents, who are studying at Aviation College Zaria. According to him, he has proposed the conversation of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, to Federal University of Veterinary Medicine Vom, and Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi to Federal University of Science and Technology Barkin-Ladi, among others.

Speaking on security, the Senator said, the biggest challenge facing Plateau North is insecurity. According to him, he has made consultation with traditional institutions and key stakeholders to find a permanent solution. 

“The issue of security must be handled discretely to achieve results. We will be relentless until our Zone and State is rid of terrorists,” he noted. 

“The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism and Creative Economy is ready to partner with Plateau State Government to harness the beautiful to tourism potential in the state,” he said.
